USING TECHNOLOGY
Networking technologies are ideal to facilitate actors, who are already connected to each other, to carry out real activities. Because in the end, social networks on internet are always connected to actions of real people.
To successfully design tools to support networks of people or territories we first map the activities and the information fluxes that characterize them. After that we choose the networking tool that fits best in the context and is most accessible to those who will use it. We use participatory design methods, involving future users in the development of new tools, to make sure that the characteristics of the online platforms respond to their needs and is adapted to the context.
Especially when we design an online service for Local Administrations and/or Governments we find it important to use this approach. An online tool will only add additional value to the traditional service if it fits in the context and is user friendly. This also means paying specific attention to limiting the ‘digital divide’ by considering different types of users, like the elderly.
